Each Virtual Tutor (VT) course has been conveniently customized into smaller, concentrated reporting categories, or strands, providing greater flexibility over what is assigned to each student. As an example, we offer an ACT virtual tutor course for Mathematics. The main course contains skills that could be covered on the national assessment. All of those skills have also be conveniently organized into smaller sections, or strands, that can be assigned as needed.
ACT Mathematics [full tutor course] contains the following strands:
- Coordinate Geometry
- Elementary Algebra
- Intermediate Algebra
- Plane Geometry
- Pre-Algebra: Part One
- Pre-Algebra: Part Two
Each strand will vary in length depending on the required skills or standards, but will typically include between 20-25 lessons. These lessons are not necessarily sequenced in the order in which they are presented in the classroom; the VT courses are designed for students to focus on one strand at a time. On average, students typically spend between 50-60 minutes on each lesson.
Edgenuity recommends assigning the individual strands to provide greater focus on specific topics for the students.
An example from the customization tool of a VT course with several strands is shown below.
A VT course can be made of a single strand, or can be a 'parent' course, comprising numerous strands, as shown below. The 'parent' course is highlighted in yellow, while the individual strands are blue.
